WELCOME FRIENDS, FAMILIES & KABABAYANS
JOIN OUR SPRING FAMILY PICNIC

Hello to all friends, families and fellow Kababayan's,

In anticipation of a heavy rain hitting our city this weekend, our association decided to postpone our Annual Easter Family Picnic next week Sunday, April 7, 2024 @ 12pm and change it to Spring Family Picnic.

We strongly felt that it will be safer and enjoyable to all celebrating picnic under the sun and not on wet grounds and on a gloomy day.

We'll still have the same affairs including egg hunting, barbeque grilling, potluck lunch, and tons of fun sports and games ... so don't forget to gear up, bring your favorite dish, your chairs and blankets, let's have a joyous Fil-Am of SCV's FAMILY SPRING PICNIC!

SEE YOU NEXT WEEK:
SUNDAY, APRIL 7, 2024 @ 12PM
Santa Clarita Park
27285 Seco Canyon Rd, Santa Clarita, CA 91350
RSVP here and let us know what food you would like to share.

See you there!!

FIL-AM OF SCV CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS
"ANG DIWA NG PASKO" - THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS

Christmas is one of the biggest holiday Filipinos celebrates. In fact, in the Philippines, Filipinos start decorating the town and their houses as soon as September hits. But more than just the decorations, Filipinos truly celebrates the reason for the season, the spirit of Christmas is felt all across the country.

And that is what Fil-Am of SCV does every single year. They bring the Christmas spirit to the Filipino-American community and they have been doing it for 39 years.

As always, friends gathered for a potluck dinner, Christmas caroling, fun games, singing, dancing and of course, a visit from Santa Claus.

President Jackie Martinez welcomed our guests, Auditor Ronnie Tejada DJ'ed the night away and the rest of the Board of Directors and Trustees had so much fun bringing the spirit of Christmas. And Santa Claus definitely did not disappoint, he showered the kids and the young at hearts with Christmas gifts.

We Did It Again!
Fil-Am won First Place for Best Float for
Non-Commercial Float Category!

Yes indeed, Fil-Am Association of SCV, Inc. won again First Place for the Best Float for Non-Commercial Float!

"Decorating the float was a labor of love and that's why the win is well-deserved", says past President Fred Bertulfo, the host of this year's parade.

This year's theme was "Celebrating America's Independence, The Santa Clarita Way, Live, Work and Play!". Chairperson Bert Salon shared that he and Committee members Jackie Martinez, Mul Tayoba, Myra Miranda, Nic Montebon, Jr. and Alexis Riguerra came up with an amazing idea of featuring professionals as parade walkers and family having picnic on the float which clearly depicts how Filipinos celebrate America, committed and proud professionals while keeping family as the center of their lives.

The float was decorated by Fil-Am volunteers and recipients of this year's Jose Rizal Academic Achievement Award. And on parade day, several volunteers showed up. They walked for an hour proudly representing the Filipino community. They cheered and engaged the crowd with their patriotic music, and energetic dancing. It was such a wonderful experience, no wonder, they won!

A SUMMER TIME WELL SPENT
LEARNING PHILIPPINE CULTURAL DANCES

Fil-Am Association of SCV, Inc., Malaya Filipino American Dance Arts and New World Dance Academy partnered together and brought a summer the kids and teens will remember.

Malaya received a generous funding from the California Arts Council and chose Fil-Am of SCV as the recipient of their funding. Malaya provided 6 free Philippine cultural dance and music workshops to the community of Santa Clarita.  And the students did not only learn dance steps but delightfully, learned a bit of Philippine history  through dance and music.

And we could not ignore that this class would not have been possible without the generous support of New World Dance Academy.  A huge gratitude to owner Marsha Obispo Field for sharing her studio for a very good cause.

And after a series of 6-weeks workshop, the students showcased what they learned with at an open house recital at Malaya's Artistic Director, Peter De Guzman's @Pilates studio in Granada Hills.  The studio was standing room only, the parents and family members were all smiles watching them embrace their Filipino culture.  And indeed, the kids did an excellent job in expressing their Filipino culture through dance and music.

With utmost gratitude to Malaya's instructors Anna Lisa De Guzman and Peter De Guzman, and Music Directors Reggie De Guzman and Marlo Campos.

Please come and support Malaya and New World Dance Academy, proud Filipino entrepreneurs.
